HOWTO
VMWARE
ADD A NEW USER TO A VMWARE ESXI HOST

Published: 20190412

Tested on:
VMware ESXi 6.7.0 (Build 8169922)

-

This will be very short.
For some reason it is unusually convoluted how to create another account.
So here's a small HOWTO.

  1. Login your VMware ESXi host.
  2. In the top left corner, inside "Navigator", expand the submenu "Host".
  3. In the "Host"-submenu, press "Manage".
  4. Press the tab "Security & users".
  5. Press "Users".
  6. Press "Add user" and enter the information. "Description" can be anything.

Here's where the mystery starts.
One would think the account is active now, but it's not.

Let's continue.

  1. In the top left corner, press "Host".
  2. Press "Actions".
  3. Press "Permissions".
  4. Press "Add user".
  5. In the field that says "Select a user", there's a drop-down menu where you can choose your newly created user.
  6. Select a role, i.e. "Administrator".
  7. Press "Add user".

Your new user is now active.
